Our Childrens Service in Moray provides after school clubs for children who have disabilities and various support needs. Clubs will be based in various locations throughout Moray and run after school, Monday to Friday and at holidays periods throughout the year. As an Activity Enabler you will be assisting staff in providing fun activities, supporting and encouraging children to take part according to their individual abilities. We are particularily keen to hear from people who have experience or an interest in activities such as music, arts and crafts, storytelling amongst others.

Cafe at Irvine

Location: North Ayrshire

We have an exciting opportunity for volunteers to become involved in our new Café which will be run by the people we support. It will be fantastic for volunteers to share and grow a local business whilst helping to develop the confidence of the café staff. We need volunteers to help oversee the day to day running and ensure that tasks are completed smoothly.

Duties will include supporting staff, making sure procedures are followed, cashing up the till, monitor stock levels, oversee prep and opening and locking up of the café.

We are looking for individuals who have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others in a team environment. Enthusiasm, willingness to learn and share skills with others is essential. Previous experience in café would be helpful but not necessary as training will be given.

Each volunteer will be required to complete a PVG application.

Peterhead - Befriender

Location: Peterhead

We are looking for a volunteer who would like the opportunity to become a befriender with a young gentleman who lives at one of Cornerstones services in Peterhead.

He would like someone who shares his interests and to possibly support him when he is visiting his brother. Cinema, Swimming, Shopping, pool and going to the pub are activities that would be of interest. He also enjoys playing the Wii, dominos and watching football.

Applicants should be willing to spending time to get know this gentleman, be enthusiastic, understanding and non Judgemental.

Bus Driver

Location: North Lanarkshire

Our Cornerstone Connect service has recently bought a new bus to take the people we support on weekly bus trips every Thursday. This opportunity involves driving/escorting people we support and their non driver support staff to activities within the local community and wider communities.

The ideal volunteer needs to be confident driving a bus and currently hold a clean D1 licence as well having excellent communication skills and be able to navigate around the city.

We will provide all relevant training, a named contact person and regular support sessions to all volunteers.

We require a couple of hours a week on a regular basis.

All travel and reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed

Office Volunteer (Fundraising)

The Cornerstone Foundation, launched in April 2017, was set up in response to growing financial demands within the health and social care sector, to ensure, that in addition to Cornerstone’s contracted work we are able to enhance our services by providing access to specialist support, equipment, activities and opportunities to ensure the people we support can live a valued life, the life they choose.

The Cornerstone Foundation is looking for a dedicated Fundraising Assistant to help us support us with the work we do.

Duties would include:
• General admin tasks including filing and stock maintenance
• Data Entry
• Assisting with mailings
• Supporting set up for events
• Contacting perspective supporters via phone

Boccia Club Volunteer

Location: Aberdeen Sports Village

Cornerstone runs a weekly Boccia Club for people with disabilities in Aberdeen City. Boccia, which is similar to garden bowls, is a Paralympic sport which tests hand-eye coordination as well as accuracy in a way that people of all abilities can enjoy. We are looking for a volunteer to help out at each session so more games can run concurrently. The club takes place every Tuesday at Aberdeen Sports Village, 1pm until 3pm. The members of the group will give you a warm welcome and you are welcome to play a game or two yourself.

Full support will be given in your role and we will pick up all travel expenses.

All volunteers who are supporting vulnerable people are required to complete a PVG application. You will receive a full service induction.

Drivers

Location: Scotland Wide

Many of the people we support enjoy going along to groups or activities in their community. Sometimes this can be restricted by the staff not being able to drive.
Some people we support like to attend groups by themselves but again are not able to get there due to the lack of transport.

So we are looking for drivers across Scotland who are drivers and have use of a car to help support individual get to their activities and get the most out of their day.

Short Breaks Volunteer

Location: Dundee

Our Short Breaks Service based in Dundee offers children who have additional support needs, the opportunity to attend an after school club which runs on a Wed 3.30 -5pm, 5.30 - 7pm and a Saturday 9 - 5pm (split into morning and afternoon sessions). The club offers a variety of activities where children can have fun and socialise with others.

We are looking for volunteers who are willing to help staff organise activities, support the children to take part and help clear away at the end of each sesion. We are particularly keen to hear from volunteers who would be willing to share any experience and skills in activities such as Arts and Crafts, storytelling or music.

Befrienders - Ellon

We are currently looking for 3 befrienders to support our Arnha Service in Ellon, The 3 gentlemen who live here are looking for befrienders to support them when accessing different activities in the local community. Some of the activities they are interested in are, horse ridding, attending football matches, bowling, going to the pub, theatre, cinema, pool, going for day trips, walks or drives in the car.

Our befrienders really get involved in all the fun stuff, enabling individuals to get out and about, make new friendships and build new skills. So if you feel you have some time every fortnight or month to give to one of our 3 gentlemen then please get in touch.

You don't have to have any specific qualifications, just enthusiastic, open, friendly, honest and non-judgmental. Volunteer applicants are also asked to join the PVG scheme (protection of vulnerable groups).

Sunday group volunteers

The group runs every Sunday 12am – 2.30pm.

Activities include art, cooking, social skills, budgeting, gardening, developing computer skills, exercise, music and attending local events and activities as well as inviting interesting people along to do presentations which are of interest to the group.

A key part of the club is to help develop friendships. This group is run both for, and by, the people we support.

Befriender - Peterhead

Location: Peterhead

We support a young woman in Peterhead. She lives in her own flat with in a learning disability complex. She receives support from staff for cooking, cleaning, personal care and attending social functions.

She often finds that she is on her own and would like a volunteer to support her in going for a coffee, shopping or to the cinema. She has a buss pass and enjoys trips to Aberdeen and out for lunch.

If you feel you have a few hours to spare each week to help a young woman get the most out of her life then this could be for you.

You will receive support in your role, full induction and training. All reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

Events Volunteer

Cornerstone deliver a variety of events throughout the year in order to raise funds and awareness of the work we do. The events we host range from concerts, fashion shows, fundraising dinners, sports challenges and many others.

We are looking for dedicated Events Volunteers to help us to make these events a success. This role would involve:

- Assisting with the preparation of fundraising events
- Helping to set up venues before events
- Spreading awareness and promoting up and coming events
- Assisting with various tasks during events such as catering and selling raffle tickets

• Delivering and collecting cans to a wide range of services, community groups and local business across the North East of Scotland.
• Developing strong relationships with your communities and donors and seeking out new opportunities.
• Recording can placement and collection on the fundraising software ThankQ in accordance with Cornerstone Foundation guidelines.
• Providing Community Fundraiser and wider Cornerstone Foundation team with regular updates on progress.

Canalside Bus Driver

We require drivers at different times during the day to enable the people we support to come along to the day centre.

Befriender

We have a lady who lives in Glasgow and would like the company of a female befriender on a weekly basis for 1-2 hours on a Saturday with the possibility of volunteering on other days. She is looking for soemone to go to the cinema with, shopping and go along to her own volunteering at the Women's Library. The right person will be socialable enjoy meeting people and going to new places. You should also be patient and understanding.
This lady is in a wheelchair and will need assistance at some points when out and about.

We will provide relevant training, a named contact person and regular support sessions to all volunteers.

Activity Enabler - Music

Our service in Ellon supports 4 gentlemen to live an active and valued life. The Support Workers who work there describe them as energetic, fun, chatty and affectionate. Music is something that they all love and have in common because of its calming influence. We are looking for someone who can spare a couple of hours once a week/fortnight who has and can play an instrument. Guitar, violin, cello, recorder – it doesn’t matter, just as long as it is calming.

All volunteers will be very welcome! Full support will be given in your role and we will pick up all travel expenses.
